The Midlands Art Centre in Edgbaston Birmingham has long been a favourite haunt of mine, not only to visit for events and shows, but to exhibit my own work. The MAC usually runs a monthly makers market throughout the year as well as a Christmas craft market over two weekends in December (with the odd interruption from none other than Grayson Perry and the unfortunate discovery of RAAC in parts of the building - which have absolutely nothing to do with each other I might add!).
The events are packed with a huge variety of skilled makers from across the West Midlands, bringing a festive atmosphere and subsequently lots of visitors. I will be taking my Posh Paper Mache along, plus some other goodies that I have been working on (including my new tea towels and coasters) to both weekend events this year.
I have recently designed some fresh Christmas cards and new small animal sculptures and in the last few weeks I have been inspired to create some different mini bird designs so you will have a lot more to choose from, as well as some giant versions of these which I will be airing for the first time. I am particularly pleased with the latter as they are delightfully chunky and silly looking, plus, having been testing my paper mache sculpture for outdoors for the last year or so I am confident that they can survive outside safely. Who needs a garden gnome when you can have a big foolish looking bird decorating your back yard!?
So do come along and take a look around, there will also be plenty of tasty food offerings available to sustain you while you shop and no doubt some Christmas Carols!
MAC Christmas Market is open 11am to 5pm Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of December. I will be there for the 3rd, 4th and 10th and crossing my fingers that they can squeeze me in last minute on the last Sunday too!
If you can't make it along those weekends you can also find me at the Maker Market, St. Thomas's Chruch Hall in Stourbridge from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday 16th December. This will be my last fair before Christmas, but remember that I now have my home exhibition space that you can visit so do pop in or you can make an appointment to come along at your convenience.
